Foundational Mat Classes

The Grey Heron, Northland's comprehensive Pilates studio, has a deep love and belief that the mat is where you can truly connect with self and for those who are regulars at Grey Heron know how much Founder, Nara lives to be on the mat. Mat classes have been designed as a progressive term-based program that gently builds core strength, mobility & postural awareness from the ground up. Mat classes are ideal for beginners, returning movers or anyone wanting to refine their technique, the classes focuses on mastering the STOTT pilates principals - Breathing, Pelvic &  Rib Cage Placement, Scapular Movement & Stabilisation as well as Head & Cervical Placement.Each week introduces new layers of movement to support functional strength, body awareness & flexibility. Beginning with foundational mat work, you'll create a strong base for more advanced mat work while developing stability & stamina.

This class is taught in a small group setting to ensure individual attention, making it safe & supportive environment to reconnect with your body.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellation & No-Show's

Casual Class Passes
If your cancellation is within 4 hours of class starting or no show, your class pass will be consumed.

Private Sessions
If your cancellation is within 6 hours of your session or no show, you will be invoiced in full (100%) of the session total.

Memberships
If your cancellation is within 4 hours of class starting or you no show, your class membership will be consumed.
If your cancellation is within 6 hours of your private session starting or no show, your session will be consumed.
We are all human - things do come up and life can take over sometimes, so if there is an emergency please phone 021 134 3078.

Terms & Conditions

1. Waiver Form

You agree to sign a waiver form with Grey Heron Studios.

2. Studio Policies

You agree to adhere to the Grey Heron Studio Policies.

3. No Show Policy

If you are late by more than 10 minutes - or fail to attend the class altogether - the class will be deducted from your account as used and you will be recorded as a “No Show”.

4. Paying for Memberships

Membership fees are paid in advance, on a weekly basis, by direct debit from the bank account or credit card you have provided for direct debit purposes.

5. Meeting your Requirements

You must ensure the account provided for billing can accept direct debits and that there are sufficient funds in your account on the payment day. If you need to change your nominated billing account or update account details please do so in your app.

6. Declined / Failed Payment(s)

You are liable for any fees resulting from declined/failed direct debit payments.

Failed payments that extend past one occasion will cause your account to be placed on hold and access to classes/private sessions/memberships will be removed until your outstanding balance has been paid and updated account details have been provided.

Grey Heron Studios will make a reasonable effort to advise you on the status of failed payments by raising the situation as soon as possible - either in person, by phone or email.

7. Cancellation Policy

Canceling Classes:

Clients are required to cancel class bookings a minimum of 4 hours before class starts in the app.

Clients are required to cancel private sessions a minimum of 6 hours before session starts in the app.

Late Cancellation & No Show Penalties:

If your cancellation is within 4 hours of class starting or no show, your class pass will be consumed.

Canceling Non-Fixed Term (Rolling) Memberships

Clients on a non-fixed term contract are able to cancel their membership anytime from their app. This will notify the studio and a 28-day notice period will begin. Once the 28-day notice period ends, your account & all weekly payments will end.

8. Can Grey Heron Studios change your agreement?

Grey Heron Studio’s may at times add to, change or remove Terms and Conditions.
This includes changing opening and closing hours, services, facilities and membership fees. Sometimes, Grey Heron Studios may close for refurbishment, unforeseen circumstances and/or training. If this substantially reduces our ability to provide our service to you, Grey Heron Studios will pause membership fees accordingly.

The most up-to-date Terms and Conditions always apply, you will be given at least 28 days’ notice of any changes.

Terms and Conditions - Memberships

1. Non-Fixed Term (Rolling) Memberships

Non-Fixed Term (Rolling) Memberships are paid in advance within 24 hours of chosen date.

If you wish to cancel your membership you must give 28-day notice period. If you wish to upgrade or down grade your membership type you must give 14-day notice period.
If the chosen date falls on a weekend day or a public holiday the time period will be within 24 hours from the start of the next business day.

2. Rollover Classes

Rollover classes will be available for an additional 14 days following your current membership week. Following this a total of 21 day period these classes are abandoned (no exemptions).

Any additional classes used, whether for class attendance, no show or late cancellation, will be charged at the membership rate in addition to your weekly membership. This charge will be placed at any time within 21 working days using the account details you provided.

3. Account Pausing Policy

In the event of serious injury, illness, personal reason or medical reason you are entitled to apply to put your membership on pause for a maximum of 2 weeks over a 3 month period.
During the pause you will not have access to classes or private sessions.

4. Payment of Fees.

All fees and charges incl GST as applicable, for rolling memberships must be paid in advance. Interest may be charged on all overdue fees and amounts at the rate of 5% per month and details forwarded to notify any credit reporting or referencing agency of the default collecting debt to a third party agency.

5. Changes in Membership Fees.

Outside of any minimum term obligation agreed to by you, Grey Heron Studios may adjust membership fees at any time giving 28 days’ notice.

Studio Policy

1. Class Arrival

Please make sure you arrive 5 minutes prior to class time. Latecomers by more than 10 minutes will be turned away regardless of space availability due to health and safety reasons where class warm up has be missed. Your account will be deduced as a “No Show”

2. No Show Policy

If you are late by more than 10 minutes – or fail to attend your booked Class/Private Session altogether – the session will be deducted from your account as used and you will be recorded as a “No Show”.

3. Attire

Highly recommended to wear comfortable close fitting clothing to your classes or private sessions. Wearing grip socks is compulsory for Reformer classes for hygienic reasons and are to be worn at all times throughout the session.

4. Cell Phone and Smart Watch Policy

Please make sure your cell phone is turned off as not to disrupt the flow of the class, unless there is urgency and discussed at the start of class with your Instructor, in this case you must exit the studio to answer your cell phone/smartwatch. Smart Watches are permitted for exercises purposes only.

5. Personal Belongings

Grey Heron Studios does not accept responsibility for any loss, theft or damage caused to any items, valuables or personal belongings brought into the studio, and clients do so at their own risk. Please place personal items in the safe space made available to you.

6. Minimum Age

The minimum age for attending the Grey Heron Studios is 16. People under the age of 18 are required to have a parent or legal guardian confirming approval and sign of waiver to train with Grey Heron Studios.

7. Your Health

You acknowledge that you are in good physical condition and you know of no medical or other reason why you cannot or should not do active or passive exercise or have disclosed with Grey Heron Studios of your health and/or medical conditions and if required you have had exercise clearance by a Health Care Professional.

You recognise that the Instructor(s) is/are not able to provide you with medical advice with regard to your fitness, and information collected is used as a guideline to the limitations of your ability to exercise. You agree to let the Instructor(s) know in advance of any changes to your health and accept to provide medical clearance if asked by Instructor(s) and/or referred to Health Care Professional(s) out of health concerns.

You agree to not hold any Instructor(s) or Director of Grey Heron Studios liable for any injury that may occur during classes or private sessions.

8. Health & Safety

Please keep off all equipment you are not instructed to be on. Under no circumstances are you permitted to lift or move the Pilates Reformers alone or any other equipment.

In the event of an injury occurring during your session, please inform your Instructor immediately and follow their instructions to either modify the remainder of your session or stop your session entirely.

Waiver

Waiver of Liability and Informed Consent Release

This release, Waiver and Hold Harmless Agreement is made by and between the undersigned (Client ) and Grey Heron Studios, and entered into on the day, month and year noted below.

  1. Grey Heron Studios provides space for and instruction in Pilates conditioning methods and exercise prescription. The parties to this agreement recognise that Pilates and exercise prescription, like any physical conditioning exercise program, could lead to physical injury to the client.

  2. Client desires to undertake the Grey Heron Studio program with the full knowledge of the possibility that physical injuries could result from it and the desires to assume the risk of any injury.

  3. The parties recognise that Grey Heron Studios will not be able to and will not provide its program to clients without the execution of this agreement and our detailed client profile. Therefore, client in consideration of the above and of the exercise classes to be provided, hereby waives all claims for damage or loss to a person or property which may be caused by any act, or failure to act, of Grey Heron Studio instruction, staff, landlord, and their officers, agents or employees. Client assumes the risk of all dangerous conditions in and around the premises and waives any and all specific notice of the existence of such conditions.

Client also assumes the risk of any and all injuries that might result from participation in Grey Heron Studio exercise program.
